Letter: Grateful for town’s efforts v. FCP
As an original member of the Grassroots Group who opposed the Florence Copper Project, I wish to extend my gratitude to the mayor and council for their efforts in contesting the Florence Copper Project. The risk-reward aspect of having a new process in-situ injection of sulfuric acid through our water aquifer is not a guarantee that our water source will not be contaminated despite what Florence Copper officials claim.
It’s a given that accidents are sure to occur in any situation, be they mechanical or human error, despite all the efforts to avoid such events (only death and taxes are certainties). I resided near Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania with the assurance that it was safe. Well that assurance turned out to incorrect and devastating to nearby communities for many years.
My wife and I have invested our money and our lives in Sun City Anthem and hope we don’t have to worry about whether we will always have the assurance of acceptable water to drink.
