Elks scholarships

The 2020 Most Valuable Student Scholarship contest opens online on Monday. It is available to all high school seniors who are U.S. citizens. Applicants are judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need. The application is due Nov. 5. Visit to apply. Students may visit their school counselors for more information regarding the application.

Al-Anon meetings

Al-Anon group meetings are available throughout the week:

  • Monday: Florence Al-Anon meets at 7 p.m. Mondays at First Presbyterian Church, 225 Butte Ave. in Florence, in the church basement.
  • Tuesdays: The Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature group meets at 5:30 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Room 1, 1515 N. Trekell Road in Casa Grande.
  • The Strength and Hope Al-Anon Family Group meets on Tuesday and Friday at 7 p.m. at Community of Hope Church, 45295 W. Honeycutt Ave. in Maricopa.
  • Wednesday: Serenity Al-Anon Family Group meets at noon on Wednesdays at First Presbyterian Church, Room 10, 702 E. Cottonwood Lane in Casa Grande.
  • Thursday: Just for Today Al-Anon group meets on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. at United Methodist Church, 1515 N. Trekell Road, Room 5, in Casa Grande. Attendees should park in the back and look for signs.

Various class reunions

The Class of 1971 is organizing the annual reunion for the graduating classes of 1960 through 1980 of Casa Grande Union High School. This year’s event will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, at BeDillon’s Restaurant and Cactus Garden, 800 N. Park Ave. The casual get-together takes place once-a-year on the second Friday of October. Dinner and drinks are at the attendees’ expense. Kick back and reminisce with friends and listen or kick up your heels and dance to the music provided.
