SUPERIOR – Two lost hikers spent a cold night on Picketpost Mountain near Superior before they were picked up by members of the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office’s Search and Rescue Posse.
The hikers started their trip on Jan. 23 and became lost on the mountain, said Lauren Reimer, a spokeswoman for PCSO. They did not say what time they started their hike.
According to a PCSO tweet, the temperature that night dropped to about 45 degrees and it started to rain the next morning.
Reimer said the two hikers called 911 around 7 a.m. on Jan. 24.
Posse members were able to locate the pair using the description they gave to dispatchers and cell phone data from their 911 call, she said. Cell phone carriers provide location information to emergency responders when someone calls 911 to help responders locate the caller.
