FLORENCE — A 17-year-old girl will be cited for failure to control speed to avoid a collision following an accident Monday afternoon in which she and her 15-year-old female passenger were injured.

The accident was reported to police around 4:08 p.m. Monday on Florence Kelvin Highway less than a mile east of State Route 79.

Police said it appeared the Dodge pickup truck drove off the roadway approximately 100 feet before colliding into the side of a concrete bridge. As the vehicle continued across the bridge, it rolled over several times before coming to rest on the side of the wash.

There were no signs of braking prior to or during the collision.

There were no hazards to indicate why the driver went off the roadway, according to the accident report by Florence Police. Police determined speed and inexperience were the contributing factors to the collision.

One of the teens appeared to have minor injuries, while the other was flown from the scene by helicopter ambulance.
