APACHE JUNCTION — Apache Junction Police officers have a person in custody after the death of a 68-year-old woman Thursday evening.

Jay Hungerford, 30, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder in connection with the death of Joan Sirhan.

According to Apache Junction Police, at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, officers were called out to an apartment complex in the 800 block of South San Marco Drive and found Sirhan lying on the ground. She was unconscious and had extensive injuries to her face and head.

Sirhan was transported to Banner Desert Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

According to police, Sirhan was visiting family members and was attacked while walking to her car to drive home.

While at the scene, officers were able to identify Hungerford as a possible suspect and arrest him. He was transported to and booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center in Florence.
