FLORENCE — Members of Florence’s Community Emergency Response Team helped the Red Cross deliver 150 meals June 16 to community members affected by the wildfire near Superior.
In April, the team spent six days in the Dudleyville area in eastern Pinal County to help deliver food and water to firefighters and residents. The team, which has 22 active members, also has experience in “firefighter rehab,” helping firefighters by providing shade, cold towels and cold drinks.
Program Director Mike Scherm said the team remains ready to help at a moment’s notice. A class for potential new members is being planned for July.
In CERT training, citizens learn to: manage utilities and put out small fires; open airways, control bleeding and treat for shock; provide basic medical aid; search for and rescue victims safely; organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers to be effective; and collect disaster intelligence to support first responders.
