APACHE JUNCTION – An Apache Junction man led police officers on a short chase while throwing evidence out the window, authorities said.
According to Pinal County Superior Court records, David Hernandez, 40, is charged with possession of dangerous drugs, unlawful flight, tampering with physical evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia.
At 3:03 a.m. on Feb. 6, an Apache Junction Police officer allegedly saw Hernandez fail to stop at a stop sign at South Meridian Road and West Fifth Avenue. When the officer tried to pull him over, Hernandez took off.
Hernandez allegedly blew through a second stop sign at East Fifth Avenue and South Malcolm Drive and crashed into a tree. He was able regain control of the vehicle and started driving at a high rate of speed westbound on Broadway Avenue.
The officer stated that he saw Hernandez throw several items out of the window of his car. The officer was able to stop Hernandez and took him into custody at East Broadway Avenue and 97th Street in Mesa. The officer allegedly found 1.3 grams of methamphetamine on Hernandez.
