ORACLE — Pinal County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two men for allegedly taking $16,000 worth of supplies and computer equipment from the Oracle School District in August.

According to Pinal County Superior Court records, Steven M. Saiz, 33, and Joshua E. Duarte, 25, are each charged with one count of burglary.

At 9:55 p.m. on Aug. 24, deputies stopped a vehicle Saiz was driving in the 2000 block of West American Avenue in Oracle for a broken headlight.

Saiz allegedly did not consent to allow deputies to search the vehicle but said he would open the driver’s-side door so they could look in the car. One of the deputies spotted some drug paraphernalia, which led to a search of the vehicle.

While searching the vehicle, deputies found multiple electronic items and supplies with labels from the Oracle School District, along with other drug paraphernalia. Both Saiz and Duarte claimed that the school items belonged to the other person.

Deputies, with the help of school district employees, were able to trace the items back to the area where they were stolen in the district and found that at least 17 laptops and other school supplies worth a total of $16,000 had been stolen.
