FLORENCE – Town Recreation Superintendent Alison Feliz presented a preview of holiday events at Monday’s Town Council meeting:

  • “Third Friday” celebrations are back from 5-8 p.m. November 18 and Dec. 17 in downtown Florence, with entertainment and businesses staying open late.
  • The 89th annual Junior Parada youth rodeo returns Nov. 26-28 at the Whitlow Arena on State Route 79, three miles south of downtown. The parade begins at 10 a.m. Nov. 27 on North Main Street. A free street dance will be held beginning at 4 p.m. Nov. 27 in Padilla Park (behind Silver King Marketplace). Bands begin playing at 5 p.m.
  • The Greater Florence Chamber of Commerce holds a farmers market from 8 a.m. to noon on the second and fourth Saturdays. Santa will also be on hand for pictures from 9 a.m. to noon on Dec. 11.
  • The “Santa Cruise,” in which Santa rides around town on a firetruck, was begun last year when Christmas on Main Street could not be held. It returns this year from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 2. The town will post the route, which residents can follow.
  • “Christmas on Main Street” will begin at 6 p.m. Dec. 3 with holiday lights switching on. Santa and Mrs. Claus, reindeer, the Grinch and other entertainers will be on hand throughout the night. The light parade begins at 7:30 p.m.
  • The “Jingle Bell Jog” will begin at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 4 at Heritage Park. Cost is $25 for adults and $15 for kids. “Breakfast with Santa” follows from 9-11 a.m. at the Library & Community Center. Guests are asked to pre-register and the cost is $8 per person.
  • An “Old West Days” celebration is being planned for January.
