Frybread sale

Florence Village off Adamsville Road is hosting a frybread sale 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 10, as a fundraiser for Florence graduate and baseball player Matt Olsen, who’ll play for the Cowlitz Black Bears in Longview, Washington, this summer. Water Safety & Family Resource Day

The 2019 open swim season begins with the fourth annual Water Safety and Family Resource Day from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, at the Florence Aquatic Center, 174 W. First St. Vendors will offer valuable information about healthy lifestyles. Community Services will offer free swim testing and registration for swim lessons and other summer programs. Lifeguards will demonstrate water rescues. If attendance exceeds capacity for the aquatic center, there could be slight entry delays. New museum hours

Pinal County Historical Society Museum, 715 S. Main St., has new hours. The museum is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The museum will be closed for the summer from July 1 to Aug. 31. Phone 520-868-4382 and visit pinalcountyhistoricalmuseum.org.

Open Studio

The last Open Studio for the season is from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, May 21, at the Suter House, 270 N. Pinal St. Artists are welcome to bring their own materials to this free, creative and motivational setting to share a love of art. Tables, easels, stools and chairs are available.

ADC 50th anniversary exhibit

Pinal County Historical Society Museum presents a special exhibition in celebration of the Arizona Department of Corrections’ 50th Anniversary May 21st-26th. Learn about Florence’s 111-year prison history from this special exhibition showcasing all 12 ADC complexes. PCHS Museum will also dig deep into our archives to display rarely seen items such as contraband, Arizona State Prison Outlaw Rodeo, historic photographs of Stars behind Bars, prison sports and more. As a special bonus, exclusive private tours of the ADC Florence facility will be offered to museum visitors. Tickets are $10 for adults, which includes museum admission and prison tour. Aquatics Summer Kickoff for students

Middle school and high school students are cordially invited to the Summer Kickoff 2019 event at the Florence Aquatic Center on Thursday, May 23. The event runs from 1:30 to 5 p.m. on the last day of school. For only $2 per person, participants will not only experience all the center’s water features, but will enjoy various games, music and fun. The aquatic center is located just west of the Library and Community Center.

Family Swim Night

The popular Family Friday Night Swim is returning to the Aquatic Center beginning on May 24th. Each Friday through July 12th from 6 to 8 p.m., families are invited to enjoy all the features at the Aquatic Center. Regular entrance fees apply.

Drum Circle

The Florence Arts and Culture Commission is pleased to announce that the next drum circle is from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, at the Jacob Suter House, 270 N. Pinal Street. The drum circle is a group of people playing hand-drums and percussion instruments, and is open to all ages at no charge.

Summer Kids Club

The end of school is fast approaching which signals Florence Community Services Department’s annual Summer Kids Club. The program is open to children entering kindergarten through sixth grade and includes a variety of activities. Those include theme weeks, games, crafts, swimming and more. The program is Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Community Center from May 28 through July 12. The weekly fee is $85 for residents per child and $95 for non-residents.
