Q. Please introduce yourself and discuss why you would like to serve on the school board.

Roger Biede III: My name is Roger Biede and I am 10 year resident of Florence Unified School District and currently the Executive Director of the Florence Chamber of Commerce. I have seen the Florence/San Tan area grow exponentially while the District expands to keep up and want to make sure our future leaders have the education to lead in that growth in the future. Being a part of and working with the Governing Board is a natural compliment to my service to the Community and I feel that I would bring valuable experience and leadership to the challenges facing the District to be a part of making that happen.

Bob Dailey: I have lived in San Tan Valley since 2004 and have been on the board since 2006. I am on the board to make sure that we give the best education possible to every one of our kids in the district.

Sherri Jones: Sherri has lived in San Tan Valley and in the Florence Unified School District since 2004. Originally from the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Southern, New Jersey area, she has lived in Arizona since 1995. Her professional background has been focused on working with or on behalf of children, providing support for educators and administrators, connecting families to resources, and helping to build community connections all over Arizona. The open positions on the Florence Governing School Board present an opportunity for Sherri to civically engage at the local level, utilizing her experience in education and community engagement. We are being challenged, some greater than others during this unprecedented time to step up as community members, especially when it comes to meeting the needs of children.

Tammy Quist: My passion is children and education and my “why” has always been to leave something better than I found it — to make a positive difference wherever I go. Like most of you, I want this world and community to be a better place because I was here. We all make a difference in the words we speak, the actions we take, and the values that we live. Every person has a positive contribution — something they alone can give — to their community.

As a member of this community, a community in which all three of my adult children live and are now growing their families, I am dedicated to giving service and contributing in any way I can for the betterment of the community.

EDITOR’S NOTE: This the first in a series of four articles on the candidates running for three open seats on the Florence Unified School District Governing Board. The candidates responded in writing to questions from the Florence Reminder. Typos and grammar are the candidates’ own. Every candidate in this race is a write-in. The General Election is Nov. 3.
