FLORENCE — Florence police officers and staff presented awards and cash prizes May 27 to 12 elementary school children in the Police Department’s art contest.

The drawings, on the theme of “Hometown Heroes,” will be on display for the next year in the police station lobby. The winners were chosen by vote of Florence town employees.

Third-place winners, receiving $25 prizes, were Elias Barron, first grade at American Leadership Academy (ALA); Cayden George, third grade at Florence K-8; Kyle Dean, sixth grade at ALA; and Emily Jones, seventh grade at Anthem K-8.

Second-place winners, receiving $50 prizes, were Wyatt Downs, first grade at ALA; Leah Shalkowski, third grade at Florence K-8; Tessa Rainwater, fourth grade at Anthem K-8; and Kayden Wheeler, seventh grade at Anthem K-8.

First-place winners, receiving $100 prizes, were Noah Krouth, kindergarten at ALA; Marley Allen, second grade at ALA; Lily Thomas, fourth grade at ALA; and Jasmine Cortes, seventh grade at Anthem K-8.
