SCOTTSDALE — Santa Cruz Valley finally reached the mountaintop.
It hoisted the 2A state championship trophy after a dominant 42-7 win over Benson on Saturday afternoon at Coronado High School.
It was a special moment for seventh-year coach Rishard Davis and his players, who have constantly made it to the playoffs but were unable to fulfill their ultimate goal.
“It feels good,” Davis said. “I don’t know, maybe I can make sense of it in a week or so, but I’m just happy for the boys, they wanted this. It was just perfect timing. I hope they soak it in more than I do, they deserve it. Hopefully for the underclassmen, this motivates them.”
