PICACHO — A Tucson man is facing charges after fleeing from state troopers while driving a vehicle containing four people who had allegedly entered the country illegally.

According to Pinal County Superior Court records, Isai Velasquez, 20, is charged with unlawful flight from a law enforcement officer.

At 10:05 p.m. on July 13, an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper stopped a vehicle that was traveling west on Interstate 10 near milepost 232 for an overly dark window tint.

When the trooper approached the vehicle, which was being driven by Velasquez, the vehicle took off at a high rate of speed.

The trooper followed the vehicle, which reached speeds up to 124 mph in a 75 mph area, while changing lanes and following other vehicles too closely.

After 4 miles, Velasquez stopped the vehicle near milepost 226, near Picacho. The trooper took Velasquez into custody and turned four people in the vehicle who did not have documentation to be in the country over to the U.S. Border Patrol.
