RED ROCK — A traffic stop on Interstate 10 near Red Rock turned deadly when one person fleeing the scene was struck and killed by another vehicle, authorities said.
At 10:24 p.m. on Wednesday, an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper pulled over a vehicle traveling east near milepost 226 near Red Rock, DPS spokesman Bart Graves stated in an email. Troopers detained one person and another person ran from the traffic stop.
The person who fled ran across the roadway and was struck by another vehicle, Graves stated. That person died at the scene.
The eastbound lanes and one of the westbound lanes of the interstate were closed for more than five hours. Graves said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
