ELOY — An Eloy man is facing charges after allegedly pulling a BB gun on another person and trying to escape from police.
According to Pinal County Superior Court records, Joseph Valenzuela, 21, is facing two counts of aggravated assault, one count of escape and one count of resisting arrest.
According to a probable cause statement from Eloy Police, officers responded to a call at 6:17 a.m. on Nov. 21 in the 500 block of East Hopi Circle. A man at the home told police that Valenzuela had allegedly threatened him with a BB gun during an argument over a cellphone.
Officers found that Valenzuela was wanted on two active misdemeanor warrants. As they started to take Valenzuela into custody, he tried to escape by charging at one officer.
Officers were able to take him into custody and place him in the back of a patrol car.
Valenzuela later admitted to having an argument with the man over the cellphone but said he never pulled a BB gun on the man. He also denied assaulting the police officer, saying he was just trying to get away.
