ELOY — A corrections officer working at an Eloy private prison has been accused of engaging in unlawful sexual conduct with an inmate.
Christina Lopez, 45, of Tucson, was arrested Monday and booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center for “unlawful sexual conduct by a custodian.”
Eloy police said Lopez engaged in unlawful sexual conduct with the inmate at the Saguaro Correctional Center on June 8.
Staff at the prison operated by private contractor CoreCivic contacted the Eloy Police Department on June 24 about the allegations and police conducted an investigation before arresting Lopez.
CoreCivic also terminated her employment after conducting its own investigation after contacting police.
The inmate remains in custody at the Saguaro Correctional Center and is not being identified because he is the victim of a sex crime.
