RED ROCK — A Douglas man is facing drug charges after an Arizona Department of Public Safety trooper pulled him over with 9½ pounds of cocaine hidden in his vehicle.

According to Pinal County Superior Court records, Oscar R. Gomez, 40, is facing charges of possession of narcotic drugs for sale and transporting narcotic drugs for sale.

A DPS trooper pulled over Gomez’s vehicle at 10:19 a.m. on Nov. 10 near milepost 221 on Interstate 10 for a crack in his windshield, according to court records.

After writing Gomez a warning for the windshield, the trooper noticed that Gomez’s answers to his questions didn’t match up. He asked Gomez if he could search the vehicle. Gomez allegedly gave his consent and signed paperwork giving that consent.

A search of the vehicle revealed a compartment beneath the back seat, which was not factory installed. Troopers found 9.5 pounds of cocaine stored in the compartment.
