ELOY — Stephanie Garcia, 47, of Coolidge was arrested Sept. 11 for having sex with a prisoner at CoreCivic’s Saguaro Correctional Center in Eloy.

She is the third female employee working in a Pinal County prison who has been charged with having sex with male prisoners since June.

Garcia was a “faith-based coordinator” at the privately operated prison when she was arrested for the crime.

She had been employed with CoreCivic for one year, according to court records.

“When officers arrived at the facility, they made contact with the inmate, who confirmed that he did in fact engage in sexual intercourse with Garcia on two separate occasions that day,” a probable cause statement in court records reads.

Documents state the first encounter of that day occurred in Garcia’s office while the second incident occurred later in the day in the facility’s multipurpose room, “and two staff members walked in on them as they finished intercourse.”

Security video confirmed Garcia and the inmate were in her office and the multipurpose room together that day.

Garcia was transported to the Eloy Police Department. She denied having sex with the inmate and requested an attorney, according to the probable cause statement.

A search warrant was issued to collect DNA samples from her clothing as evidence. She then told detectives that she was willing to speak without a lawyer present and “admitted to having sexual intercourse” with the inmate twice that day. She said both encounters were consensual.

She was later booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center charged with unlawful sexual conduct by a custodian.

She was freed from the county jail on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday at 8:30 in Pinal County Superior Court.

Garcia is the third female prison employee arrested for having sex with male prisoners this summer. The other two are Christina Lopez and Kristal Cintron.

Lopez, 45, of Tucson, pleaded guilty on Aug. 30 to having sex with an inmate at Saguaro Correctional Center on June 8. She is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 11.

Cintron is a 26-year-old Casa Grande woman who was arrested July 31 and charged with unlawful sexual conduct with an inmate at a state prison in Florence.

According to court documents, Cintron was working for Trinity Services Group in the kitchen at Eyman Complex’s Rynning Unit at the time of the alleged offense.

On Sept. 3, Cintron pleaded guilty to attempted sexual conduct in a correctional facility and was sentenced the same day to 18 months supervised probation.
