ELOY — The Fiestas Patrias is back in full swing in 2021. The event will celebrate Mexican Independence Day and Hispanic Heritage Month by having food and music as well as a car and bike show.
The car and bike show is expected to be one of the main events of the Fiestas, taking place on Sept. 17-18. Ronnie Rodriguez will participate in the show in addition to helping to plan the event. He says that it is awesome to be back after the 2020 Fiestas were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It feels great to be back; every year we have done the car show, we have just gotten bigger and bigger,” Rodriguez said. “Hopefully we will be even bigger this year, we have been getting a lot of calls for registration, and hopefully this year is our biggest year.”
The car show will showcase custom rides like show cars and lowriders as well as custom motorcycles.
For Rodriguez, the show car hobby has been something passed down from his father, with the hobby being a true family affair.
“My dad had owned a show car from the day I was born,” Rodriguez said. “He was really into lowriders, so I grew up right there with my dad working on cars. He completed a 1948 Chrysler and handed it to me when I was 16, after I got my driver’s license. So that has been my pride and joy for the past few years.”
Fiestas is a chance for Rodriguez not only to show off his passion, but for him to celebrate the Hispanic culture in Eloy.
“I love it. Growing up as a kid, my grandmother lived right across the street from Main Street Park, so that was our time for us to be there and see all the dancers and music performers,” Rodriguez said. “I have little girls, and they love to dress for the occasion, and it feels good that from kids to adults, we can actually participate and provide this for the future generations.”
The 2021 Fiestas in Eloy will provide entertainment for everyone who attends.
