ELOY — Cal and Jan Callaway are offering two days of teaching people the art of social dancing.
Every Friday and Saturday morning the couple leads instructional dancing events at the Tumbleweed Inn, 3815 W. Frontier St.
The Callaways, from Casa Grande, are competitive dancers and instructors. They’ve taught western social dance for more than two decades.
Among the dance styles they teach are waltz, swing, cha cha, two-step, hustle, salsa, mambo, cumbia and others.
“It’s linguistic,” Cal said. “It’s like teaching a language. And with western social dance, dancers often dance with a complete stranger.”
Friday morning lessons are introductory classes for beginners. Lessons are from 8 to 10 a.m.
The Saturday morning events, designed for intermediate dancers, start at 8:30 a.m.
Sign-in begins at 8. The event includes lessons followed by open dance, practice, walkthroughs and lots of fun, Callaway said.
Both events are free to participants but gratuities are accepted. Participants may order breakfast after signing in at each event.
Those wishing to participate may text song requests to 602-339-1946 to have a personal or group playlist created.
The couple also offers customized lessons, one-on-one coaching and workshops by appointment.
