ELOY — An addition to the Eloy Elementary School District board meeting is reports from faculty and staff who are contracted to perform extra duties.
During last week’s meeting, Angela Acuna, the liaison for parent and student programs, along with Leo Holt and Irene Avila, who are grade level chairs for third and sixth grade, explained to the board the additional responsibilities they have.
Superintendent Ruby James is also the transportation director for Santa Cruz Valley Union High School.
“We’re not trying to make it hard for anybody and we don’t mean to put you on the spot,” Governing Board President Anna Ogle said. “We just, as board members, need to know we’re paying extra for these positions and need to know when people come and ask us why.”
During the meeting the board approved a memorandum of understanding between the district and Chicanos Por La Causa to provide services for the early childhood development program.
James also advised the board to continue being part of an intergovernmental agreement in a state school finance case.
“If you remember years back, we were part of a lawsuit that several schools are still involved in for underfunding of rural schools,” James said. “It has been ongoing and I would like for the Governing Board to remain part of this lawsuit because if they ever finalize it, then Eloy Elementary will get a substantial amount of money.”
