Terrell Myles, a Walmart employee, wrote the poem “Hearts of Magic.”


Togetherness during a time of social distancing is the theme of a new video and poem featuring a San Tan Valley Walmart employee.

Terrell “Trizz” Myles, a department manager at Store 3751 in San Tan Valley, wrote the poem “Hearts of Magic.” Through his words, he aims to inspire and lift people as they struggle through the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing, according to a press release from a Walmart marketing representative.

The written words inspired Walmart to make a video of Myles reciting the poem to share with audiences nationwide.

In the one-minute video, Myles can be seen speaking the words to the poem in the store. The company later added some animation to bring the positivity and optimism of the words to life, the press release said.

“The ability to be able to serve my community and serve the communities around me through Walmart is one of my favorite things about working there,” Myles said in a blog post about the poem.

Myles is a 21-year-old lyricist and poet who wanted to share a message of positivity and gratitude with his fellow Walmart associates and the customers.

“In times of darkness the sun still shines regardless. And I think that that’s a reminder... that light will always harness the power to break through fear,” the poem begins.

Myles, who has worked for the company since he was 19, is deaf in his right ear. But despite his hearing impairment, he is passionate about music, which he experiences differently than some.

“I can still feel vibrations in my right ear and music is the only thing that kicks it off,” he said. “So every time I listen to music, music like what makes me complete in a way.”

Writing lyrics or poems comes naturally, he said.

Writing “Hearts of Magic” took about 15 minutes. His aim was to write a poem of inclusion and hope.

“I wanted it to be something that no matter where you were in the world, no matter where you worked, no matter what your situation was, you could feel what I was saying,” he said.

Because the poem and its message resonated with Walmart executives, they transformed it into a video, filmed after hours in the closed Walmart where Myles works, according to the press release.

Walmart is publishing the video across its social media channels, which include Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Myles is one of several Walmart associates whose talents have inspired the retailer to feature them on a national platform.

In March, a group of associates singing “Lean on Me” was turned into an advertisement.
