FLORENCE — Pinal County experienced two more deaths over the weekend attributed to the coronavirus, health officials reported Monday morning.

According to data from the Pinal County Health Department, there have now been seven deaths from COVID-19 in the county, up from five reported Friday. Five of the deaths are individuals 65 and over, while two are from the the 45-64 age category.

Pinal County now has 257 reported cases, up from 247 reported by the state Sunday. (The county does not post data over the weekend.) According to state health officials, Casa Grande saw four more cases, going from 34 on Sunday to 38.

The Arizona Department of Health Services reported Monday that the number of cases statewide passed 5,000 for the first time with 187 deaths. That is up from 4,929 cases and 184 deaths reported Sunday.

According to the New York Times, the number of cases in Pinal County doubles every 11 days.
