CASA GRANDE — Sun Life Family Health Center is hoping to do another blitz of COVID-19 testing soon, after the organization’s first testing blitz on Saturday went so well.
July 11 was the first time that Sun Life has offered free drive-thru testing for COVID-19 for the general public in the Casa Grande area.
“Testing in Casa Grande has been needed, there just wasn’t any supplies available to provide a mass testing day,” stated Samantha Reinhard, Sun Life manager of patient engagement and community relations, in an email on Wednesday.
Residents had to register themselves and any family members who wanted a test on Sun Life’s website in order to get the test on Saturday. The 200 slots available were filled before the end of the day on July 8.
Residents who got tested at the event on Saturday can expect to get the results in about two to seven days, depending on how quickly the lab Sun Life is using is able to process the tests. So it is currently unknown how many positive tests resulted from Saturday’s event.
Sun Life billed a resident’s insurance for the test, if a resident had insurance, or used funds from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act to cover the cost of those who did not have insurance. Under the CARES Act, health insurance companies are required to cover the cost of testing for COVID-19.
It is currently unknown if and when Sun Life will offer another drive-thru testing event. However, the organization does offer testing for COVID-19 through regular office visits.
