CASA GRANDE — A Casa Grande ZIP code now has the most coronavirus cases reported in Pinal County.

According to information released by the Arizona Department of Health Services Friday morning, the 85122 ZIP code now has 55 confirmed cases of COVID-19, up seven from Thursday. Casa Grande has now passed the Queen Creek/San Tan Valley area, which had 51 cases as of Friday, as the top hot spot in the county.

Coolidge now has 11 cases reported, while Eloy and San Tan Valley each went up two.

Overall, Pinal County had 317 cases reported Friday and nine deaths, up 15 cases and one death from Thursday's numbers.

The number of cases reported statewide was up 276 at 6,045. Deaths reported was at 266, up 17 from the previous day.

There have been more than 80 deaths reported in the state this week, but health officials said Thursday that that was a reflection of the high number of hospitalizations reported weeks ago and they don't see that number rising in the future. State data shows the number of people hospitalized has been declining daily since it peaked April 7. Currently there are 984 people in hospitals diagnosed with COVID-19.

Of the 266 deaths reported as of Friday, 120 were in Maricopa County, Arizona's most populous county. Other counties with the most deaths include Pima with 74, Coconino with 34 and Navajo with 18, according to the Department of Health Service's website.

For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up in two to three weeks. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia and death. The vast majority of people recover.
