The Police Report is compiled from Florence Police Department reports. The only names published are those of adults who were cited, arrested or involved in a traffic accident. Suspects named in this column are innocent until proven guilty. Anyone whose arrest appears in this column who is later found not guilty or whose charges are dismissed is welcome to inform the Florence Reminder and it will be reported.

Tuesday, Sept. 7

A private property accident, in which a driver was rear-ended, was reported on North Hunt Highway. The second driver stated his foot slipped off the brake. Insurance information was exchanged and no citation was issued.

Wednesday, Sept. 8

An accident was reported at South Sunrise Plaza Drive and West State Route 287. Albert R. Hines stated he attempted to stop for the first car. The first driver stated he was stopped for traffic as he waited to turn left. Both drivers stated they had neck and back pain and were seen by Florence Fire. Hines, 56, was cited for failure to control speed to avoid a collision and no proof of current insurance.

An officer responded to a report of an assault between an inmate and corrections staff on North Pinal Parkway. A charging review packet will be forwarded to the appropriate prosecutor for determination of charges.

An officer was dispatched to a report of a reckless driver on North Pinal Parkway at Jason Lopez Circle. The officer conducted a traffic stop and suspected the driver to be under the influence. The officer conducted a DUI investigation and obtained an electronic search warrant for a blood draw. The driver was released to a responsible party. The case is pending lab results.

Friday, Sept. 10

A male reported a tailgate extender was taken from his truck on West Sonoma Way.

A deceased male was found in the canal near West Canal Road and South Sellers Street. The case is under investigation.

An officer was dispatched to a welfare check. The reporting party said people were verbally abusing her. After conducting an investigation, the officer determined an assault had occurred. Debra A. Burnside, 65, was cited on charges of assault and disorderly conduct.
