The Police Report is compiled from Florence Police Department reports. The only names published are those of adults who were cited, arrested or involved in a traffic accident. Suspects named in this column are innocent until proven guilty. Anyone whose arrest appears in this column who is later found not guilty or whose charges are dismissed is welcome to inform the Florence Reminder and it will be reported.

Monday, July 12

An officer was dispatched to an assault not in progress on West Saratoga Court. The resident said someone threw a rock over his wall and it struck him in the head. He did not see who threw the rock but provided the name of a possible suspect. This person was contacted but stated he did not throw the rock and did not know who did. The case is closed pending further information.

Tuesday, July 13

A driver stopped at Attaway and Palmer roads backed up to make room for a semi tractor-trailer making a turn and collided with the car behind him. The other driver stated she honked her horn and attempted to back up as well, but did not have time to avoid the collision. Insurance information was exchanged and no citation was issued.

An officer stopped a car at South Pinal Parkway and Florence Heights Drive Officer after the car crossed the center line several times. Upon contact with the driver, the officer believed the driver to be impaired. A DUI investigation was conducted and a blood draw was completed. The case is pending DPS lab results.

Wednesday, July 14

An officer stopped a car after it crossed the fog line and was traveling well below the speed limit at Hunt Highway and Coors Road. Upon contact with the driver, the officer suspected the driver to be under the influence. A DUI investigation was conducted and the driver consented to a blood draw. The driver was released to a responsible party. The case is pending DPS lab results.

Thursday, July 15

An officer was dispatched to a report of an assault between an inmate and a correctional officer on North Pinal Parkway. The inmate reportedly grabbed the officer while the officer was attempting to remove the inmate’s restraints. The case is pending further information from reporting party.

A Florence Gardens resident reported several decorative rocks were stolen from his front yard.

Saturday, July 17

An officer responded to a single-car accident without injuries at Merrill Ranch Parkway and North Camden Drive. The officer suspected the driver, Nathan Hand, 26, to be under the influence. Due to the driver’s behavior, Florence Fire was dispatched and he was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Medical staff cleared the driver and he was then arrested and booked into jail on charges of DUI slightest degree, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Sunday, July 18

Joshua Florek, 25, was arrested and booked into jail on a charge of shoplifting on South Main Street.

An officer was dispatched to a report of shoplifting not in progress on North Pinal Parkway. The suspect was identified as Joshua Florek, 25, from a previous shoplifting report. At the time of the contact, the suspect provided a false name. A charging review packet will be submitted to the town attorney for determination of charges.
