COOLIDGE — A woman was transported to a hospital after she reportedly drove her vehicle over a tall embankment and into a canal along a major route bordering Coolidge.

At 1:41 p.m. on Wednesday, first responders were dispatched to the intersection of State Route 87 and Macrae Road after reports of a vehicle located in a canal. Upon arrival, they discovered a white Chevy Impala facing west within the canal, which had recently been drained.

Emergency personnel also found the female driver in the vehicle unresponsive. She was transported to Chandler Regional Medial Center for evaluation.

The driver is believed to have been traveling west on SR 87 when she went off the roadway, drove up and over the embankment and down into the canal.

Police said the driver is suspected to have been impaired.
