COOLIDGE — Kenilworth Sports Complex is never quite so busy as it is on July 4.
The annual Independence Day celebration features free admission to the city pool, along with plenty of food and fireworks. The event is sponsored and organized by the Coolidge Parks and Recreation Department.
“We always get a huge turnout for the Fourth of July,” said Coolidge Parks and Recreation Director Ricky LaPaglia.
Festivities will begin at the Coolidge city pool, where members of the community can swim and participate in various water activities such as the annual diving competition. The pool opens from noon and closes at 5 p.m.
At 6 p.m., July 4 celebrations will continue at the Kenilworth Sports Complex, 10438 N. Christensen Road. Similar to last year, the venue will feature music, a free photo booth, inflatable slides, jumping castles and plenty of food vendors.
According to LaPaglia, the vendors present at the celebration will vary from those that attended last year. In addition, the parks department will give out free watermelon slices.
The fireworks display is scheduled to begin around 8:30 p.m.
“We hope for another great show,” LaPaglia said.
