The Central Arizona Valley Institute of Technology campus is in Coolidge.

COOLIDGE — The Central Arizona Valley Institute of Technology will be adding additional parking to its central campus as part of a construction project seeking to build another classroom at the vocational school.

At a meeting of the CAVIT Governing Board this month, the board approved an amendment to a contract with Sun Valley Builders LLC, adding 42 parking spaces to the construction.

The extra spaces are intended to provide CAVIT students as well as visitors to the campus participating in the onsite clinics with more places to park and curb the number of individuals parking on unpaved areas outlining the campus, Superintendent Mike Glover said.

Board members also approved the purchase of a marquee sign to be added to the campus for $50,158.76.

The board also recessed during the regular meeting for a short organizational meeting, where a new chair was elected.

Linda Good, who represents the Casa Grande school districts, was elected to serve as chairwoman for 2020. Board member Marty Baca was re-elected to act as CAVIT’s legislative liaison.

Prior to reconvening for regular session, the board also voted to maintain the same meeting schedule and agenda posting sites as in 2019. The CAVIT board meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 10 a.m.
