Truck rollover

A semi tractor-trailer rig rolled onto its side following a collision with another rig Tuesday, July 27, 2021, on State Route 87 in Coolidge.

COOLIDGE — Two semitrucks collided Tuesday morning along State Route 87 near the intersection with Kenworthy Road.

According to police who arrived at the scene, the two trucks were traveling west when the first driver attempted to make a right turn onto Kenworthy.

Police believe the second semi driver failed to observe the truck turning and struck the first vehicle in the rear, causing the truck’s trailer to swing out and strike a utility pole. The first truck was found on its side.

The second truck, which was carrying almost 90,000 pounds of rock material, continued west, slid off the road and also struck a utility pole.

According to police, there were no injuries on the scene.

The road was closed by police for safety reasons until the utility lines could be inspected.

Once the poles were inspected, the trucks were towed away and the road was cleared around 9 a.m.

Police say there was no impact on the power lines or coverage to residents.
