FLORENCE — Pinal County’s new Development Services building will be energy-efficient, environmentally friendly and “a big plus for the people of Pinal County,” Florence Vice Mayor John Anderson told a crowd gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony last week.
The town of Florence will vacate a portion of Florence Street for easier pedestrian traffic between the new building on the east side of the street and existing county offices on the west side of the street. The contract also includes an Emergency Operations Center building across the street.
The Board of Supervisors awarded the construction contract on Jan. 8 to Danson Construction LLC, which submitted the low bid of $13,235,000. Ground was broken Jan. 15.
The two-story Development Services building will allow county offices to vacate Building F in the Pinal Street county complex. That building, an acre under roof, is perhaps the county’s most inefficient and most expensive to operate, and was a jail at one time.
