MESA — Casa Grande-based rapper Angel “Doughboy Yetti” Ulloa says he’ll be living a dream on July 5, when he performs as the opening act for one of his favorite performers, Lil Rob.
“Lil Rob is a legendary Latin performer,” Ulloa said. “I grew up listening to Lil Rob as a kid. ‘Summer Nights’ was our anthem for summer vacation.”
Ulloa, along with Eloy-based hip-hopper Jose “Snub Loco” Salinas, will be among the entertainers opening for Lil Rob at Club Red, 1306 W. University Drive in Mesa.
Malo Mente, Chico Rico and other groups are also set to perform.
“Also in attendance performing are my fellow group members from BrownBoyz, a Latin collective of Arizona hip-hop artists coming together to support one another and help the community in a positive way through our platforms,” Ulloa said.
Lil Rob is a California-based Mexican-American rapper, producer and actor. He has been performing in the hip-hop and G-funk genres since the early 1990s.
Ulloa is an award-winning rap performer. He and Salinas received the “Album of the Year” award by the fan music site AzMt, also called Arizona Mixtapes, in 2017 for an album they co-produced, “Bossmovement.”
In 2016, Ulloa was also named “Best New Artist of the Year” by AzMt.
“For me, as an artist, I have opened for a lot of Hispanic legends that I grew up listening to including MC Magic, Mr. Shadow, Miss Lady Pinks, Lil Cuete, Mr. Capone-E, Zigzag, Baeza, Caroline Rodriguez and the list goes on,” he said. “But this is a big accomplishment for me. Lil Rob is one of the few remaining that I have not opened for yet.”
Ulloa said he plans to perform new material from his recent “Boss Movement 2 Still Bossin”’ album.
His new album, and new mixtape “Get Dough” are available on his YouTube channel, listed under DoughBoy Wicked Mob.
More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the show, he said.
The show begins at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased by texting 520-510-6916.
