New StoryWalk in Peart Park

What is StoryWalk? It is a way for kids and their grown-ups to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Pages of a scanned picture book are posted inside park signs along a walking path through Peart Park. The book was specially selected with children in mind, but it’s great for all who are young at heart. The new story “Spunky Little Monkey” by Bill Martin Jr. and Michael Sampson is posted and will be available through the end of May. The first page is posted at the side door of the Main library. Participants may pick up a map and explore Peart Park while following the story. The StoryWalk Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vermont, and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg-Hubbard Library.

World Book Day

World Book Day was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization on April 23, 1995. This date is chosen because it is the anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare and prominent Spanish chronicler Inca Garcilaso de la Vega. The enjoyment of reading books is celebrated on World book Day; it’s a day to revel in the privilege of being able to read. So, head to the library or curl up on the couch and just be a bookworm.
