Vista Grande Public Library offers families the opportunity to “unplug” with a variety of board games, puzzles and activities for kids from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
All Things Space
Vista Grande Library hosts an “All Things Space” day on Thursday from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Attendees will create galaxy bottles, constellations and space artwork, play space games and look at space virtual reality. It’s intended for ages 12 to 17 or grades six through 12 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday.
Science Scavenger Hunt
Hang on to your Bunsen burner. A science-themed scavenger hunt suitable for children ages 5 to 12 is next Monday at 10 a.m. at the Main Library and 2 p.m. at the Vista Grande Library. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
A Kindle Fire class is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Vista Grande Library. It covers the basics of using a Kindle Fire, app management, how it is organized, the control panel and the settings.
Storytime & Craft
The whole family may join the youth librarian for a short program with stories and songs followed by a craft at 10 a.m. Tuesdays at Main Library during the reading program. Parents or guardians are required. Registration is not required.
Summer Reading Program
Children and teens set their own goals for reading this summer. The libraries encourage participants to read 20 minutes a day. In addition to events, each child and teen will receive weekly prizes (while supplies last) and can turn in their reading log for a free book from the Scholastic Book Fair that will be held during the week of July 15-20. Family Anime & Manga Club for teens
Those who enjoy anime and manga may visit the Vista Grande Library every Tuesday in June from noon to 1:30 p.m. Activities include watching anime, discussing manga, drawing and cosplay. Participants must be in sixth through 12th grade.
Teen: Minute to Win It!
Teen contestants ages 12 and up will take part in a series of 60-second challenges that use objects that are commonly available around the house. Challenges include Cookie Face, Stack it Up, Suck it Up, Stack Attack and more. It starts at 2 p.m. Tuesdays at the Main Library.
Virtual Reality Room for teens
Teens can sign up for 20 minutes with the Lenova Daydream VR Headset. Bring your phones and download free apps to use the Merge Cubes, color in a book that comes to life and experience VR space cards. Call the Vista Grande Library to reserve your time at 520-421-8652, ext. 5019. VR Room is open on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Storytime at Vista
The youth librarian offers stories, rhymes, songs, educational play and a puppet show during Preschool Storytime at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays and Toddler Storytime at 9:30 a.m. on Thursdays. Preschool Storytime is intended for children ages 3 to 5, but all children are welcome.
Kids are welcome to “drop in” and complete a craft project to take home. Crafts generally take about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Parents/guardians are required to assist their children.

Family movies at Vista
Family movies are shown at the Vista Grande Public Library on Thursdays this summer at 10:30 a.m. Silly cartoons and the best family films of the year will be shown. Popcorn will be provided. Children under 12 must be supervised by a parent.
Promoting play contributes to early literacy development by increasing attention span, memory, creativity, language and vocabulary skills. The Main Library LEGO Club will meet every Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. during the reading program. Parents are required for children under 8.

Free Friday Flicks
Free movies are shown each Friday at the Main Library for a family-friendly movie (PG rating). Parents/guardians are required for children under 8. Parents of older children are required to remain in the library during this program. Registration is not required, but please be on time as movies start at 2 p.m. Popcorn and a drink will be served.
