Gale Learning Courses
What’s on your list to learn? Maybe you would like to build up your business know-how, master a second language or conquer code? Whatever it is, you are bound to find something that piques your interest with Gale Courses. These classes are held entirely online, led by expert instructors and, best of all, free with your library card. Select from hundreds of personal and professional development courses covering a variety of topics.
While the sessions are six weeks long, the lessons are released twice a week — so you can keep up or catch up. A new round of courses starts every month. To learn when the next enrollment of Gale Courses is, visit https://education.gale.com/l-casa30302.
Online library registration
Don’t have a library card? You can now register with the library online. This will give you access to all the library’s electronic resources, including Libby, Hoopla and Gale Courses. To register online, go to cglibrary.org, click on the “Log In” link in the top right corner, then click on the link to register. To upgrade your account to borrow physical materials, come by the library in person during hours of operation.
Learn a language
Online language learning is available through cglibrary.org. Click on Research, All Categories, then Language Learning.
Duolingo offers personalized lessons that adapt to your learning style. Exercises are tailored to help you learn and review vocabulary effectively.
Memrise brings the context of the outside world into your lessons with video clips of native speakers. Listening to different speaking styles helps you build your ability to understand the beauty of another language.
Pronunciator is a fun and free way to learn any of 163 languages with personalized courses, movies, music and more. Learn online, either on your desktop computer or mobile device.
Come in and browse
Both branches of the library are open to the public for browsing and computer use. The Main Library is open Monday/Wednesday/Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday/Thursday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Vista Grande Library is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Masks are required in all city facilities.
Books for sale
A small selection of books, audio books, DVDs and CDs is available for sale at both the Main and Vista Grande libraries. Hardbacks are $2 each, paperbacks are 50 cents each or three for $1, DVDs and CDs are $1 each. Proceeds go to the Friends of the Library.
