CASA GRANDE — The Casa Grande Alliance is offering its Strengthening Families program as a free, three-day workshop in both Spanish and English. The workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, June 11-13,.
The Strengthening Families program will help families strengthen communication skills, increase appreciation for each other and successfully navigate difficult family situations. The program has been offered by the alliance for eight years and has helped over 160 Casa Grande families.
“Our goal is to reach the Latino families in our community to help enrich and deepen their family experience,” said Maria Schroeder, the alliance’s Bilingual Strong Families instructor. “The workshop provides really helpful tools for families to be more successful and for parents to be stronger positive supports for their children during these very important years.”
The program includes a series of engaging, meaningful activities and discussions for parents and at the same time separate activities and discussions for the youths. Discussions and activities for the whole group are included as well. At the conclusion of the workshop, each family will receive a certificate and a gift card for completing the program.
Free child care will be provided for children ages 5 to 9. Light breakfast and lunch will also be provided.
Strengthening Families is a research-informed approach to increase family strengths, enhance child development and reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect. It works to engage families, programs and communities through increasing parental resilience, improving social connections, providing useful tools in times of need and expanding knowledge of parenting and child development, according to a press release. The program is made possible through an Arizona Parents Commission grant through the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family.
