CASA GRANDE — The Casa Grande Valley Elks Lodge held its annual Flag Day ceremony on July 4.

The event is usually held each year on June 14, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, it was postponed until Independence Day.

About 42 Elks attended the ceremony to honor the nation’s flag, celebrate the anniversary of its birth and to recall the achievements attained beneath its folds, a press release from the organization said.

“It is quite appropriate that such a service should be held by the Order of Elks, an organization that is distinctively American, intensely patriotic and without counterpart,” the press release said.

Taking part in the ceremony were the Honoring, Hiring, Helping Veterans of Pinal County Honor Guard, who assisted the Elks in presenting a historical depiction of the American flag.

Honor Guard members include Gene Briddle, retired U.S. Army; Bill Bailey, retired U.S. Air Force; Ivan Brooks, retired U.S. Army; Mike Fanning, retired U.S. Navy; and David Lynch, retired U.S. Army.
