CASA GRANDE — The summer learning fun continues online for Casa Grande kids. The city of Casa Grande has moved some of its summer arts and science classes online this year because of COVID-19.
The city Parks and Recreation Division is offering six art classes and three science classes for kids ages 4 to 12. The classes include the department’s popular Art Daze sessions for kids ages 7 to 12, Little Picassos for 4- to 6-year-olds and Little Einstein science classes for 5- to 12-year-olds.
Each set of classes will have three sessions during the summer, June 9 to 11, June 16 to 18 and June 23 to 25. Classes for July haven’t been scheduled yet.
Each class costs $20, which covers the cost of supplies. Supplies for the classes will be available for pickup at the Casa Grande Community Recreation Center, 1905 N. Peart Road, starting the Thursday before the classes start. Each class will send an email with a link that parents will use to connect with the instructor. Kids will need a flat surface such as a desk or table to work on.
This year, because of COVID-19, the department won’t be offering classes such as kinder gym, sports camps, youth theater and other programs that involve the students coming in close contact with the instructor or other students, said Jeff Molner, a recreation coordinator at the city.
The department usually offers 25 classes each summer that serve nearly 500 kids, he said.
“Of course this is not how the staff or instructors envisioned summer programming this year, but we are making the best of it and hoping the kids will enjoy some of their favorite summer activities at home,” Molner said.
