APACHE JUNCTION — The annual mud run in Apache Junction will have a different feel this year.
Due to COVID-19, the annual event will be a “virtual mud-less run,” in which participants run, walk or crawl in any location they choose, whether it’s a park, throughout their neighborhood or on a treadmill, a press release from the Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Department said.
“It’s up to you!” the press release says. “Map out your own course, create obstacles and even decorate your own finish line.”
For a more challenging terrain, the city recommends participants use a trail, state park or other location.
To complete course challenges, participants may do body weight exercises, carry items such as weights or bags and run. No gym equipment is required.
“There are reps and distances for each level as well,” the press release said. “After each quarter-mile run, have a family member spray you with a hose or squirt gun or throw water balloons at you while you do the exercises. It’s on you to stay dry.”
Participants should complete the run by Oct. 31. Photos may be shared on social media using the hashtag #AJMudLessRun2020.
Registered participants will receive an AJPR Mud-less Run Medal and AJPR Mud-less Run T-shirt.
