Summer Reading Program

Children and teens set their own goals for reading this summer. The library encourages participants to read 20 minutes a day. In addition to events, each child/teen will receive weekly prizes (while supplies last) and can turn in their reading log for a free book from the Scholastic Book Fair that will be held during the week of July 15-20. Register online at or in either library branch to join the 2019 Summer Reading Program.

Family Storytime & Craft at Main

The whole family is welcome to join Youth Librarian Ms. Julie for a short program with stories and songs followed by a craft. Parents/guardians are required. Registration is not required but be on time on Tuesdays during Summer Reading at 10 a.m.

Anime & Manga Club for teens

Do you like anime and manga? Come to the Vista Grande Library every Tuesday in June from noon to 1:30 p.m. Activities include watching anime, discussing manga, drawing and cosplay. Participants must be in sixth to 12{sup}th{/sup} grade.

Teen: Minute to Win it!

Teen contestants ages 12 and up will take part in a series of 60-second challenges that use objects that are commonly available around the house. They will be doing challenges such as: Cookie Face, Stack it Up, Suck it Up, Stack Attack and more. Don’t miss out! Starts at 2 p.m. Tuesdays at the Main Library.

Teddy Bear Picnic at Vista

Calling all bears! Bring your teddy bears and a sack lunch to the Vista Grande Public Library for a teddy bear picnic on the moon! Library will provide snacks, plenty of cozy blankets and space-themed fun for everyone this Tuesday at 2 p.m.

Virtual Reality Room for teens

Teens can sign up for 20 minutes with the Lenova Daydream VR Headset. Bring your phones and download free apps to use the Merge Cubes, color in a book that comes to life and experience VR space cards. Call the Vista Grande Library to reserve your time, 520-421-8652, ext. 5019. VR Room is open on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Storytime at Vista Grande

Join Mr. David for stories, rhymes, songs, educational play and a puppet show! Preschool Storytime begins at 10 a.m. on Wednesdays and Toddler Storytime begins at 9:30 a.m. on Thursdays. Preschool Storytime is intended for those 3 to 5, but all children are welcome.

Drop-in Crafts

Kids are welcome to “drop in” and complete a craft project to take home. Crafts generally take about 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Parents/guardians are required to assist their children.

  • Wednesdays at the Main Library from 2 to 3 p.m.
  • Fridays at the Vista Grande Library from 10 to 11 a.m.
  • Saturdays at the Main Library from 10 to 11 a.m.

Tween gaming

Bring the kids down to the Vista Grande Public Library for a variety of video games and board games. Program meets Wednesdays during the summer from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Parents are required for children under 12.

Family movies at Vista

Bring the whole family down to the Vista Grande Public Library on Thursdays this summer at 10:30 a.m. Silly cartoons and the best family films of the year will be shown. Popcorn will be provided. Children under 12 must be supervised by a parent.

Cosmic Bingo for Teens

Teens grades six through 12 can come to the Vista Grande Library and join in on Cosmic Bingo! Win prizes and have fun this Thursday from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Lego Club

Promoting play contributes to early literacy development by increasing attention span, memory, creativity, language and vocabulary skills. The Main Library Lego Club will meet every Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. during the Summer Reading Program. Parents are required for children under 8.

Free Friday Flicks

Join us each Friday at the Main Library for a family friendly movie (PG rating). Parents/guardians are required for children under 8. Parents of older children are required to remain in the library during the program. Registration is not required, but please be on time as movies start at 2 p.m. Popcorn and a drink will be served.

The Fun Van at Main

The Fun Van is a free program for parents, grandparents, caregivers and accompanying children ages 0 to 5. This program can foster a love of books by developing a habit of reading with your child from a variety of quality literature you borrow and return each week. It also teaches parents reading strategies to expand their child’s thinking and promotes language and literacy development on Fridays at the Main Library from 9:30 to 11 a.m.

Dance workshop

Bring the kids to the libraries for an awesome dance workshop where they will learn and test out new moves taught by dance professionals on Monday, June 17, at 10 a.m. at the Main Library and 2 p.m. at the Vista Grande Library.

Windows 10

This class at the Vista Grande Library covers the Windows 10 operating system. Topics covered will be managing the app screen, using the email and Internet Edge apps, settings and more. Laptop with Windows 10 required. Wednesday{sup} {/sup}from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Intermediate iPad/iPhone

This class at the Main Library is a continuation of the Beginning iPad/iPhone class. It covers using the core apps Calendar, Message, App Store, etc. that came with your device. iPad/iPhone required. This Thursday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
