ESSER III: Public Comment (October 6-12, 2021)

As part of the national American Rescue Plan (ARP), the Casa Grande Union High School District will receive funds through the Elementary & Secondary School Emergency Relief Plan (ESSER III). ESSER III funding is available for the 2021/22, 2022/23, and 2023/24 school years. This funding is to be used to support local recovery efforts in response to COVID-19. These funds will be used in conjunction with other federal funding sources to support all these endeavors. ESSER III includes a new requirement to make available for public comment a budget narrative explaining the budgetary plan for the funding. This is available for public review and comment from October 6-12, 2021, at www.cguhsd.org/ESSERIII.aspx.

If you have not filled out a meal application for this school year, now is a perfect time to do so. We have provided the form for you. If you prefer, you can also visit www.myschoolapps.com and fill out the online form or go to the district website at www.cguhsd.org/doFoodServices.aspx. Please consider completing the form even if you do not intend to participate in the Free & Reduced-Priced Meals program. This information is used by the federal government to determine the district’s allocation of funding for numerous grant programs which support school educational activities.

Meal Distribution

AP Scholars Recognized

On September 30, CGUHS AP teachers delivered yard signs to students who earned qualifying scores on their AP tests taken in May 2021. Every fall, the College Board AP Program recognizes high school students who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP exams. The AP Scholar Award is granted to students who receive scores of “3” or higher on three or more AP exams. Casa Grande FFA Steak Fry

The Casa Grande FFA Steak Fry will be held on Friday, November 5, at Casa Grande Union High School, from 4-6:30 p.m. Options are in-person, to-go, or drive-thru. The meal includes an 8 oz sirloin steak, beans, potato salad, tortilla & salsa, cookie, and drink. The cost is $15 per ticket. Tickets go on sale the week after Fall Break. Key Club Participates in City-Wide Cleanup

CGUHS Key Club took part in the City-Wide Cleanup on Saturday, October 2. Thirty-two (32) CGUHS students arrived early in the morning to collect trash. After a great amount of hard work, twelve (12) bags of trash were accumulated. Breakfast was served at the city’s recreation center, compliments of Chick-fil-A. It was a fun day for all. Arizona STEM & Innovation Summit

CGUHS students participated in the Arizona STEM & Innovation Summit. Some of the state’s top educators, researchers, and high-tech businesses showcased and discussed emerging trends and products in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in the day-long event. There were dozens of interactive displays and presentations to fire the imagination and enthrall visitors no matter their age or expertise. Grand Canyon University (GCU) Visit

The CGUHS Counseling Department welcomed Grand Canyon University (GCU) on Monday, September 27, to speak to students about their campus. There will be a GCU field trip for fifty seniors in November. ASVAB Week

CGUHS School Counselors kickstarted ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) Week with seniors testing on September 28, 29, and 30. For more information on testing, visit www.cguhsd.org/cgCounselingTesting.aspx.

PSAT/NMSQT Testing @ CGUHS

Sophomores & Juniors interested in taking the PSAT/NMSQT at CGUHS on Tuesday, October 26, can pay the Online Bookstore at https://az-casagrande.intouchreceipting.com/. The fee for the test is $18 and includes a QR code for the Official PSAT/NMSQT Student Guide and Khan Academy for individualized test prep. The PSAT/NMSQT measures what you are learning in school, determines if you are on track, and opens doors for opportunities to prepare and pay for college. Some of the benefits of taking the PSAT/NMSQT test include: connection to $300 million in scholarships, eligibility for the National Merit® Scholarship Program (juniors only), learning your academic strengths, and free access to personalized prep. SAT Testing @ CGUHS

Juniors & Seniors interested in taking the SAT at CGUHS on Thursday, October 28, can pay the Online Bookstore at https://az-casagrande.intouchreceipting.com/. The fee for the test is $55. The SAT measures what students learn in high school and what they need to succeed in college. Offering the SAT test at CGUHS provides a comfortable and safe environment where students can perform their best. Blood Drive

The CGUHS AzHOSA Club will host a Blood Drive on Tuesday, November 2, from 8:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m.in the CGUHS Building L50-52. Students can submit their completed forms to Mr. Que in Room L126. Regardless of vaccination status, all donors must bring and wear a mask or cloth-based face covering.

Silent Witness Night

VGHS CGYS-SADD (Casa Grande Youth Alliance - Students Against Destructive Decisions) hosted a Silent Witness Night on Tuesday, September 28. The event promoted community involvement and suicide prevention & public awareness. The Spartans are advised by Cristina Salcido-Grigg, PE/Health/English Teacher.
