CASA GRANDE — Two area teens have been named Career and Technical Education Students of the Month for the Casa Grande Union High School District.
Ethan Jones from Vista Grande High School and Maya Galicia of Casa Grande Union High School were recognized Tuesday during the district’s regular monthly school board meeting.
Jones was nominated by his construction teacher, Rich Contreras, who stated: “Ethan is a junior and second year student in the construction program. Ethan comes to class every day ready to learn and on most projects, he is the group leader. Ethan plans on attending Central Arizona College and entering the construction program and also taking classes in welding.” His parents are Christopher Jones and Sean and Cynthia Thompson.
Galicia was nominated by her construction teacher, Mike Wagner, who stated: “Maya can best be described as a strong-willed and thoughtful person with a passion to achieve goals set far beyond the bounds. She is a first-year construction student completing the second and third year course work. She is also taking two CAC construction courses this semester. When she graduates, Maya will have her OSHA 30, NCCER Core Card and an Industrial Carpentry Certificate from Central Arizona College.” Her parents are Rafael Galicia and Ruby Ramirez.
More than 1,800 students are enrolled in the 15 different CTE programs offered in the district. Each month a different program may nominate a student for recognition.
