CASA GRANDE — An Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences-honored song writer, with ties to the Casa Grande area, has made large donations to local charities.
Diane Warren, who has been nominated 12 times for Oscar awards and who is a cousin of area resident Alan Friedman, recently made large donations, a press release from the Casa Grande RC Flyers Club said.
“Over the past several years, Diane, through her foundation, has sent thousands of dollars to both the Valley Humane Society and the Pets In Need Action League,” the press release said. “Alan, who is the president of the Casa Grande RC Flyers, presents the checks to the charities during the club’s major winter events, which are held on the second Saturday of each month, November through March.”
Money raised from the events has helped to support the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sun Corridor, Hospice Charitable Fund of Central Arizona and the Casa Grande Food Bank.
“My cousin has always loved all animals and continues to support their causes,” Friedman said. “She has never refused a request to support the animal charities that the Casa Grande RC Flyers support through their special events.
Each winter, from November through March, the club holds events at its airfield supporting the area charities.
“The public is always invited to watch the flying, take a free model airplane flying lesson, try first person viewing googles, enjoy area food vendors and browse the swap meet. On occasion area retail radio control vendors attend and display their special products. The events are always free to the public to enjoy. On their event dates, the charities have representatives at the gate collecting donations for those wanting to participate,” the press release said.
This next season’s events include:
- Nov. 13, National Model Aviation Day Celebration benefiting the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sun Corridor,
- Dec. 11, Food Bank Fly-In benefiting the Casa Grande Food Bank,
- Jan. 8, PINAL Fly-In benefiting the Pets In Need Action League,
- Feb. 12, Fly-In For Pets benefiting the Valley Humane Society and
- March 12, the eighth annual air show benefiting Hospice Charitable Fund of Central Arizona.
The club’s award-winning facilities include two paved runways with a third cross-wind runway just completed, a radio control car race track and drag race track, an onsite weather station with remote access, spectator bleachers for over 100 guests, a drone and helicopter pad with special flying area, a separate swap meet area and more.
