CASA GRANDE — A semi tractor-trailer swerved into oncoming lanes and rolled on Interstate 10 Wednesday morning after experiencing a tire blowout.
But because of light traffic on the freeway due to the COVID-19 outbreak, no collision occurred and no one was injured, state troopers said.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said the incident occurred about 10:50 a.m. on I-10 east of Sunland Gin Road.
The semi, traveling west, had a blowout on the front left side and crossed the median and rolled in the desert on the eastbound side of the freeway.
The male driver was not injured.
A trooper at the scene said if there hadn’t been a pandemic and traffic was normal on the interstate, a collision probably would have happened when the semi crossed over the median.
Although speed is not considered a factor in the incident at this time, the trooper said vehicles are traveling faster than normal on the freeway because of the lighter traffic conditions.
