CASA GRANDE — With a recent Casa Grande City Council vote, the lease for the Casa Grande RC Flyers airfield has been extended for another 10-year period.
The club will maintain control of the 11-acre, city-owned field through February 2031.
The organization has leased the land for nearly eight years, transforming the parcel on Isom Road into a field for radio-controlled aircraft on which hobby enthusiasts gather for events and activities, including events that raise money for nonprofit organizations.
The Casa Grande RC Flyers is an award-winning Academy of Model Aeronautics-chartered club as well as an Arizona nonprofit corporation. Two of the awards the club has received are the AMA’s “Award of Excellence” and the AMA’s “Gold Level Leaders Club,” for which plaques are located inside Casa Grande City Hall.
The club offers free lessons using the training of certified instructors to those who wish to learn the hobby.
“If it were not for the kindness of the city of Casa Grande, the area merchants and members of the hobby industry, the club and their airfield would not have been possible. We are forever in their debt and hope to continue to justify their faith in what we do for the residents and our community,” said club President Alan Friedman.
The club has held educational programs at area schools and 4-H clubs as well as participated in school STEM fairs.
