CASA GRANDE — An online heroes search competition is looking for a new batch of outstanding people to honor.

Pinal County Heroes hopes to recognize and honor area volunteers, veterans or others who live in Pinal County and regularly strive to make their communities better places.

“There is so much negativity and bad news out there that we thought this would be something that would build camaraderie and enrich communities,” said Pinal County Heroes founder Dani Miller. “It’s all about building morale and promoting the positive.”

Miller, a Florence-based real estate agent started the recognition program last year along with some business associates, mortgage lender Sean Martin and American Family Insurance agent Ty Schraufnagel.

Through the competition, which is run on Facebook, the group asks for nominations of people to be recognized in various occupation categories.

Competition in the month of May celebrated small business owners and the June competition recognized corrections officers.

July’s competition focuses on veterans and volunteers.

To nominate an individual, people should submit a short, horizontal video that’s about 30-45 seconds long and includes an explanation of why the nominee deserves special recognition for the things they do.

Videos may be texted to 480-695-2010.

The winner must live or work in Pinal County and go above and beyond to help the community, Miller said.

Three videos will be chosen to post, followed by seven days of viewer voting. The winner receives acknowledgement from the group, a gift card and fanfare at their place of business, Miller said.

“Usually we surprise the winner at their place of business with flowers to the winner and a gift card for whatever they like,” Miller said.

Miller, Martin and Schraufnagel each pitch in to provide the funding for the awards program. Nomination videos are due by July 31. For more information visit the group’s Facebook page, Pinal County Heroes.
