PHOENIX — A Bapchule man was sentenced Monday to eight years in federal prison for soliciting and receiving child pornography through Facebook.

Angel Catha, 21, pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of receiving child pornography from a 13-year-old girl. The defendant pursued a relationship with the juvenile while living on the Gila River Indian Community.

He asked the girl to provide him with pornographic pictures. Catha was eventually sent one image through a social media website. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the judge increased Catha’s sentence to account for his subsequent sexual abuse of the victim.

Court records show Catha pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing in Pinal County Superior Court two years ago. The judge placed him on one year of unsupervised probation.

Catha will be placed on supervised release for 20 years after serving his prison sentence and must register as a sex offender.
