CASA GRANDE — A Casa Grande man is hoping to rally the community to raise money to buy a new wheelchair for an area World War II veteran.

Chester Cones, 96, a retired pastor, needs a new electric wheelchair, said his friend Joseph John Dohnalek, who is also a pastor.

“Pastor Cones is a veteran. He served as a medic in Iwo Jima and he served Casa Grande for more than 40 years as a pastor,” Dohnalek said. “His electric wheelchair is broken and he has no money to replace it.”

A new electric wheelchair will cost about $600, Dohnalek said.

“Pastor Cones will be 97 years old on Nov. 25. It would be a blessing to surprise him with a new wheelchair on his birthday,” he said. “I know it would make him so happy.”

Dohnalek and Cones are neighbors and residents of The Garnet assisted living facility.

For more information, contact Dohnalek at 714-306-1112 or email pastorparkerjohn@gmail.com.
